How We Built TOWA - A Secure Laravel Voting Platform with Phone OTP Verification, File Nomination, and Real-Time Vote Count

Organizations managing internal elections, community votes, or institutional nominations faced significant operational and security challenges with traditional paper-based or fragmented digital processes. Key pain points included:

No secure digital nomination process - Candidates had to submit physical documents or use email, making verification slow and error-prone.

Voter identity could not be reliably verified - Without a secure authentication mechanism, duplicate votes and impersonation were major risks.

No real-time vote visibility - Organizers had no way to monitor voting progress live, resulting in delays in announcing results.

Manual vote counting - Tallying votes manually introduced errors, delays, and disputes in the result announcement process.

No centralized voter and candidate management - Administrators had to track nominations, voters, and results across multiple spreadsheets or tools.

Poor accessibility - Voters had no easy, mobile-friendly way to participate remotely without physically attending the voting venue.

Lack of audit trail - Paper-based systems offered no reliable way to trace or verify individual votes in the event of a dispute.

We designed and delivered TOWA - a purpose-built, full-stack Laravel voting platform for Zycosoft  covering the complete election lifecycle from nomination to result.

File Nomination Module
Candidates can register on the platform, complete a structured nomination form, and submit required supporting documents digitally. Each nomination is reviewed and approved by admins before the candidate appears on the ballot.

Voter Registration & Phone OTP Verification
Voters register using their phone number. Before casting a vote, a one-time password (OTP) is sent to the registered mobile number, verifying identity in real time. This prevents duplicate registrations and ensures only verified individuals can vote.

Your Vote Secure Ballot
Once authenticated, voters see the list of approved candidates and cast their vote with a single action. The system enforces a strict one-vote-per-user rule at the application and database level, making multiple votes technically impossible.

Vote Count & Results Dashboard
Admins have access to a live vote count dashboard showing real-time tallies per candidate. Results can be reviewed at any point during or after the election, with a full audit trail of all votes cast.

Admin Control Panel
A centralized admin panel allows organizers to manage nominations (approve/reject), oversee voter registrations, monitor the vote count live, and control election phases (open/close nomination, open/close voting).

Mobile-Friendly Interface
The entire voter-facing experience, registration, OTP verification, voting, is fully responsive and optimized for mobile devices, enabling remote participation without any dedicated app.
