How We Built a Scalable Laravel Education Platform with Stripe Payments and Role Based Access Control for Arthashastra Gurukul

Arthashastra Gurukul relied on disconnected tools that could not scale with their growing content library and user base. Key operational pain points included:

Fragmented content delivery - Separate tools for blogs, video courses, books, and software created a disjointed experience for both users and administrators.

No integrated payment solution - Arthashastra Gurukul lacked a unified way to process subscriptions, per-item purchases, and lifetime access payments across different content types.

Manual content access control - Paid vs. free content boundaries were enforced manually, creating security gaps and admin overhead.

Inefficient admin operations - No centralized dashboard meant managing users, subscriptions, registrations, and payments across multiple platforms.

Poor user experience - Customers had no single dashboard to view their purchases, active subscriptions, or downloadable content.

Limited scalability - The existing setup could not support growth across multiple content tiers, user volumes, and monetization models.

Unautomated registration workflows - Bootcamp signups, mentorship applications, and enquiries were handled manually with no digital workflow.

We designed and delivered a full-stack Laravel 12 web application for Arthashastra Gurukul with two integrated systems: a public-facing marketing and e-learning website, and a powerful role-based admin content management system.

Public Website
Marketing pages (Home, About, Courses, Bootcamp, Mentorship), a blog system with free and paid articles, purchasable video course categories, digital book downloads, software purchases, user registration and OTP based login, and Stripe Checkout for all paid content.

User Dashboard
A personalized dashboard showing all active subscriptions, purchased books and software downloads, video category expiry dates, and subscription renewal status.

Admin CMS
Full CRUD for users, blogs, videos, video categories, books, software, purchases, registrations, and enquiries. Admins can toggle free/paid content, suspend access, and manage staff permissions - all from one panel.

Payment System
Four independent Stripe Checkout flows: yearly blog subscription ($49.99), per-category video packages with custom pricing and validity, one-time book purchases, and one-time software purchases. Server-side session verification confirms payment before granting access.

Access Control
Middleware-based route protection for blog and video content. Books and software download endpoints verify purchase records before serving files. Admins can suspend any purchase independently of payment status.

Role-Based Admin Panel
Dynamic sidebar menu rendered from the admin_menu_items database table. A permission matrix (roles, permissions, user_permissions) controls module-level access per staff member - no code changes required.

Email & OTP System
OTP-based password reset flow, transaction confirmation emails, and registration notifications via Laravel Mail (SMTP-configurable).
